New eReader

Last year for Christmas I got a Kobo. It was their first generation one as I was thinking I really only need something that I can read books on right?? So it served me well for the time I had it. Well, I got tired of it so I tried selling it on Craigslist. It took F O R E V E R for someone to buy it. But alas...it is being picked up tomorrow and is off to it's new owner. The lady who is purchasing it, is surprising her friend with it a fully loaded Kobo for their vacation. I love that!

So today, I ran out and purchased the Kobo Touch! I didn't choose the Vox for one reason and one reason only..the screen. It's like a computer screen so when I am outside - you get glare. I got the black one and picked up a nice Plum colored case. LOVE!!

I am so happy with my purchase and I cannot wait to read my first book on my brand spankin' new eReader.

Pride & Prejudice - fingers crossed I can get through it.

Happy Sunday

Jane Eyre {Review}

I had this posted on my other blog so I thought I would transfer it to here.

One of my resolutions for 2012 is to read at least 20 books. So I begin this resolution with Jane Eyre.

Before I started this book, I had watched the newest movie version on Netflix, and after that I just had to read the book! Now, I love reading, but this book threw me a challenge.

First off, the style of writing is WAY different from the normal books I read. Since this was published in 1847, the "English" writing style, was a challenge for me. But with that being said that was about the only hard part of the book for me.

Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I was so enthralled with the book. Any spare moment I could get, I had this book in my hands. I was determine to finish it within the week. And so I did.

The story itself, is a classic. Poor, plain, Jane has a rough upbringing. Her parents fall ill and pass away when she was just little. Jane is sent to live with her next of kin, and after her uncle dies her mean,cruel Aunt is to take of her.

Some years later, she is sent to Lowood School and stays there till she is 'of age' At this point in time, she meets Mr Rochester. A moody, secretive, temperamental man. She is hired to be a governess to little Adele. But soon finds she is falling the the mysterious Mr. Rochester.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The love, the heartache, the struggle is what makes this book fantastic. While at times I felt slightly bored, there were more times of being completely captivated by this book. Charlotte Bronte's vivid writing style, captures you and keeps you reading.

A fairly tale book without the fairy tale characters.

"Do you think I can stay to become nothing to you? Do you think I am an automaton? -a machine without feelings? and can bear to have my morsel of bread snatched from my lips, and my drop of living water dashed from my cup? Do you think, because I am poop, obscure, plain and little, I am soulless and heartless? - You think wrong!- I have as much soul as you, - and full as much heart!And if God had gifted me with some beauty, and much wealth, I should have made is as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you"

Charlotte Bronte's, Jane Eyre is a must read classic. You won't be able to put it down till the very end.

5/5

Much love
xoxo

Fireside - Susan Wiggs {Review}

Susan Wiggs is one of my favorite Romance writers. She has a way of creating a romance between her characters, that captures your interest and keeps you reading till the very end. There has not been a book I haven't wanted to read again...until now (Sorry Susan!!) I have now read every book in her Lakeshore Chronicles. Definitely a great series to read.

Fireside, is up next for review.

I was very excited to read this book. I tried to get in Paperback form, but every time I went to purchase it on Amazon.ca it was out of stock and to put it on my Kobo was a pain! But in the end I purchased it for Kobo.

Ok, so this book tells the tale about Bo Crutcher, a small town Minor League soon to be Big League Baseball player and Kimberly Van Dorn. A ''hotshot media-relations expert'' from LA. Their worlds collide, as Bo finds out his son AJ needs his help. A son whom he has never met.

The book started off, slow to me. Actually the whole book was slow going. I didn't feel invested in the characters at times. While the plot was ok, I was always hoping there was going to be more. It was simple. Boy sees girl, -  girl is not interested...then throw in a son who doesn't want to be with his 'Dad', and try to come up with some romantic way for Boy and Girl to fall in love. Bleh! Then there is the story of AJ's mom...There are a hundred different ways this could have been spun but (without giving too much away) the whole INS/Immigration story, not my cup of tea.

There were scenes in the book that made me smile and I got a glimpse of personality from a character. But they were few and far between. The whole concept of a 'father' who meets his son under stressful circumstances, and is trying to help the boy BUT then at the same time he's trying to spark a flame with a women - it just wasn't working for me.

AJ's story was what kept me reading. I was hoping he would come around and accept Bo as his father and was hoping he would see that Bo was trying to help his mother. But in the end AJ was a grumpy twelve year old who missed his mom. understandable. So after I realized that, that story line was a goner I was hoping the romance would makeup for the lack luster story line. Again, it was lacking. In her previous books I was devouring chapter after chapter, smiling like a loony, because the romance was SO there. But Bo and Kim's story was just...meh.

I did finish the whole book and while I give Susan a thumbs up for trying to keep it romance-y and adding in a few twists here and there, it had a predictable ending and I saw it coming from a mile away.

Overall, I'd say this was an ok read. Not her best work in my opinion but still a good book.

Make sure to check out her other work! Really.. it's good!

Zane's Redemption { Review }

Up first, is my favourite Paranormal/Erotic writer, Tina Folsom.

I stumbled upon her Scangaurds series last summer by fluke. I love Vampire books and I was searching through Kobo and saw that it was a free option so I downloaded it.

Well let me tell you... I went red in the face after reading the first paragraph! WOAH! I was not expecting that.

This was my first 'erotic' read, and after Samson's Lovely Mortal, I was hooked!

Zane's Redemption is book #5 in the series. I've been waiting a long time for this book, and it did not disappoint.

I waited months for this to come out on Kobo. So when I got the green light I bought it- no hesitations.

Tina has done it again. She roped me in with the very first paragraph. I could imagine the scenes in my head and they were descriptive, graphic and oh so vivid. I was hooked.

Zane is described as a brutally cold Vampire who has a short temper. He has his reasons for being crude, rude and hardcore which you get to find out about later in the story. Tina tells Zane's storey with so much emotion. It makes you fall in love with him and hurt for him. He no longer seems like the asshole he is made out to be in the prior books. Speaking of the prior books - I feel you get a good sense of who he is not only as a man but as a Vampire as well. Since you get tid bits about his life and personality from her other books you feel more close to him.

Zane is pulled from his regular assignments at Scangaurds after he brutally murders a man. His new assignment - Babysitting the 20 year old Hybrid, Portia. Something he has no interest in...Until he meets her.

Zane is to keep Portia away from boys - at her Father's order. But Zane cannot keep his eyes off of her or his hands. She sparks a feeling in him he has not felt in decades. Is it lust? Or possibly love?

Portia wants to lose her virginity so she is not a Virgin forever. She has until her 21st birthday, which is 6 weeks away. She does everything in her power to sneak out to meet other boys, but she is unable to outsmart Zane. Portia is lusting over Zane. She finds him so attractive and sexy. But after multiple attempts to lose her virginity, she turns the tables she asks Zane to be her first. She flirts, flaunts and teases, until he can take no more.

Zane bends the rules, breaks them and in the end... falls for the one person he shouldn't have.

Synopsis:

The last thing vampire bodyguard Zane wants to do is to guard a hybrid, a half-vampire, half-human, whose father wants to keep her a virgin. Known for his violent temper and callous lack of compassion, Zane's out-of-control rage, born of the cruelty he suffered during the Holocaust, drives him to focus only on revenge. Trying to find the last of his torturers is his only goal in life.

Portia is a young hybrid with a serious dilemma: in a few weeks, her body will be set in its final vampire form. If she is to avoid having to live out her immortal life as a virgin, she must find a lover in that short time--something her father hires Zane to prevent.

The moment Portia and Zane meet, rules begin to bend, and a forbidden attraction bursts into flames hotter than the hell of Zane's past. But that past threatens to pull them apart unless they can overcome their prejudice, forsake hate for love, and revenge for forgiveness
.

Tina does an amazing job at creating a romance between Portia and Zane while keeping his bad boy demeanour intact. The way she integrated Zane's life story, makes you feel for him in a way I would have never imagined. Tortured in a Jewish internment camp back in the 1940's by Nazis. Zane seeks revenge to the people who did him wrong and turned him. Parts of the book I was in tears, others I was laughing and at one point I was yelling I was angry.

I have to point out while the sex scenes in this book were hot, heavy and steamy. Ok downright sexy, they were more tame than some of Tina's other books. Don't get me wrong, they brought a smile to my face, but I would have expected....more.

I read this book in 24 hours. I just could not put it down. So impressed with this book and it makes me want to read more.

Thank you Tina again for a book that I will re read just because it was that good!

New Blog, New Adventure

I've been wanting to do this for some time now, but it wasn't until this morning that I needed to do it! Yay! Finally a place I can chat about the books I am reading without any backlash from others.

The reason? I love to read a variety of genres and some may find some of them inappropriate, so thus I made my own review blog.

So first off I'll let you know that my goal this year is to read at least 20 new books. I have a feeling that number will rise... so I'm going to say maybe 50, which is a lot for someone who in school didn't enjoy reading. Well I did I just didn't like the selection we have to read.

I have a few reviews to write, so here we go!
